Yes, it's boilo season. Although it hardly gets as cold in California in the winter as it does in Pennsylvania, I still find the winter season a time to make boilo.Boilo is a northeast PA (coal) regional beverage that is homemade with each family perfecting their own recipe. My recipe is handed down to me by my grandmother, Nana Anne. Its a spicy, yet sweet drink served warm, prepared over the stove. The ingredients include: juices, spices (and a few secrets) with Whiskey being the main base. As Nana Anne once told me, "Bolio is for medicinal purposes or frivolous wintertime drinking."
